Gift yourself some self-love this Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day, a time of the year when couples exchange love and affection with each other making it feel like love is everywhere. But for some singletons, it can be a tough day to get through. It's easy to think of it as a day of roses and chocolates but it is so much more than that! It's a day to celebrate all kinds of love, including self-love.

On V Day, everyone deserves a little loving - you included! So take a break from the chaos and add a little me time into your day. Slap on a face mask, read a romance novel, watch your favourite movie (it’s gotta be Bridget Jones' Diary for me), or indulge in your fave chocky. Give yourself a gigantic hug and tell yourself you're special because you are! Cue Lizzo - Special.

You may be in a romantic relationship and believe self-love is for the single people out there. Actually, self-love is important no matter your relationship status. If we can fill ourselves up with the love and attention we need, anything from anyone else is a sparkly bonus. This way we aren't relying on others to make us feel good. We feel good in ourselves and don't get disappointed by our expectations and need for others to fill us up.

If you're looking to fill up your own cup, here are a few tips to make it easy for you to give yourself a little love on Valentine’s Day (or any other day of the year).

First, treat yo’self! Take a moment to do something special for yourself. Whether it’s splurging on a nice dinner or buying a snack at the grocery store, it’s essential to show yourself some love. It’s okay to be selfish. Think of it as a gift.

Second, spread some love. Whether it’s a card, a hug, or a kind note, make sure you show someone else some love today. Think friends, family, anyone needing a pick me up. This will not only make them feel amazing, it will also give you a boost of endorphins. Everyone loves to show and receive a little love.

Third, make time for yourself. Take a few moments to do something you enjoy…read a book, listen to music, write, or do something creative. There is no better way to practice self-love than taking a few moments out of your day and just being present with yourself. You can even take this time for meditation, yoga or some solo exploring.

Last, give yourself some compliments. Self-love isn’t just about feeling good about yourself, it’s also about recognizing your extraordinary achievements and talents. Make a list of all the things you’ve done that make you proud and remind yourself of them today.

Self-love is so important and Valentine's day is the perfect day to show it. Doing these things may feel weird at first but trust me, they work. So why not give yourself one of these gifts (or all of them)? Go ahead, you deserve it!

P.s. You may have noticed that one of these tips resonated with you more than the others and that could be down to your love language. Check out the 5 self-love languages to find out your love language and how to love yourself in the way you want to be loved.
